The Nissan Bluebird (U12) was released in September 1987 and was offered in four-door sedan and four-door hardtop body types. It was designed to have a rounded appearance in comparison to the previous generation. The hardtop sedan was later fitted with a center "B" pillar structure to increase body stiffness. The top level car was the V6 VG20ET "Bluebird Maxima" station wagon from the previous generation U11 series and was still in production at the introduction of this generation.
The various grade configurations included the traditional "SSS" (SSS / twincam SSS / twincam SSS-X). In addition to the SSS series, the Bluebird wagon was replaced by the Nissan Avenir, and the sedans (LE / SE Saloon / XE Sedan / Super-select) were also available. The entry level 1600LE 5-speed Manual Transmission started out at ¥ 1,198,000 to the top level Twin Cam Turbo 1800cc offered on the SSS ATTESA LIMITED 4-speed Automatic Transmission starting at ¥ 2,998,000 in sedan, and Hard Top bodystyles and boasted a wide variety of equipment and different combinations and grades. The Bluebird U12 appeared around the same time as the Subaru Legacy.
Others, XE Sedan Front-wheel-drive (sedan) / XE Sedan L 4-door hardtop and XE ATTESA Front-wheel-drive (sedan) / XE ATTESA L 4-door hardtop SSS-X・II system and 30 additional vehicles Anniversary set ( period), SR is the newer engine saloon FE / SSS ATTESA・V / SSS ATTESA・X add other car series set SV (late) with a large number of changes and additions.
The emergence of the first four-wheel-drive Nissan Bluebird. It had a full-time 4WD system with a center differential that was adopted from the "ATTESA" system, and switchable Front-wheel drive/4WD was offered for the "SSS ATTESA" (SSS ATTESA / SSS ATTESA LIMITED), and the "Urban ATTESA" (SE ATTESA / XE ATTESA). "Urban ATTESA" series "SSS ATTESA" standard rear differential Limited Slip Differential was an option. The first phase is CA18i (88ps) was set for the only car in the late SR18Di (115ps) engine performance is to be newer and was not enough. Engines offered were the 4-cylinder 2L SR20DET-R/SR20DET/SR20DE,4-cylinder 1.8L SR18Di / CA18DET-R /CA18DET/CA18DE/CA18i, 4-cylinder 1.6L CA16S, 4-cylinder diesel 2L LD20 II
The engine is the same as the U11-CA Bluebird from the previous generation with improvements, adding an inter-cooler and new gasoline requirements to premium fuel that increases hourspower output to 175ps from the DOHC Turbo CA18DET installed in the "1800-SSS ATTESA LIMITED". Other engines offered were the DOHC 135-horsepower CA18DE, the SOHC 88-horsepower CA18i, the SOHC 79 hp 1600cc of CA16S, and a 67 horsepower diesel 2000cc LD20-II.
The first adoption of the ATTESA system was called the STC-Sus (super toe control suspension) rear suspension. The 2WD models have a strut suspension is the parallel-link type and the same car, using the deflection of a toe control bushing 2 according to the receive side and rear radius rod and the parallel links of unequal length mechanism of improvement in cornering performance. If the HICAS four-wheel steering is active but is in passive mode, one of the program modes had developed "an acoustic run". U13-type was built as a 2WD system, but it was expanded to this series Bluebird, and the Nissan Primera wasn't yet available at time of manufacture. The standard equipped U12 Bluebird used a Front-engine Front-wheel-drive formula, using a torsion beam front suspension and the rear suspension used multi link beam suspension, and it is difficult to maintain due to performance degradation and the bushings need regular maintenance.
October 1989, minor changes to the rear combination taillamps and exterior changes.
Engine noise and vibration from the CA series engine contributed to performance issues (CA18DET/CA18DE/CA18i), but the new SR series engine (SR20DET/SR20DE/SR18Di) eventually replaced the older CA series (the 1600cc CA16S engine was the first to be replaced).
May 1991, factory-made in Australia with a unique style based on the five-door hatchback sedan "Aussie Bluebird (HAU12 type)" was released for Australia. (Please note, U12-type in Australia and is related to the Nissan Skyline R31 - The two had replaced the previous generation Nissan Pintara (Nissan Laurel)). Sales were less than 1500, so this particular vehicle is rare. Many different specifications and because of domestic and imported cars, but in reverse being sent from Australia to Japan. The FHP10/FHP11 diverted the UK Primera from importation and also in other parts of the JDM versions, or vice versa is also possible, the Aussie Bluebird HAU12 cases, air-conditioning. In parts of the JDM specification for the local version in Australia parts are easily exchangeable from the JDM and Australian version.
